Hamsa

Light lifts and darkness falls
As the sun sinks, the rising horizon
Joining Earth and sky at a glance,
Restless wind stirring the leaves
Like breathing in waves, something
On the wing, soul in flight, unquiet.
Tonight is dry, solitary, peaceful
As a hunter before the hunted breaks
From cover, both suddenly wide awake
The world is better when we sleep
And our dreams arrest, our fires
Slumber, fear and hunger balance.
