Drowning on Forgetting

I’ll never know if I did what was right,
Couldn’t do what was wrong, or ran scared
With a dead pulse pulling me down.
On a losing streak I played a losing hand
When every card was wild, closed my
Eyes when you were wide awake and
Watching, sweated sleepless nights
When you were warm beside me.
I think I know what’s best, think it’s
How I acquiesced, but I’ll never be happy
With what I’ll never know, the lives
That flow past me like rivers while
I sit still in the solitude of drowning
On dry land, laughing and forgetting.
